Cut spokes and fillers:
From: 5/8" flat •Cut 10 spokes - 25" long •Cut 7 spokes - 27" long
From 1/4" flat-Cut 18 fillers - 18" long
Mark the center of the rough side of each spoke and filler. To find the center bend the spokes at the end to find the hairy side, then measure and mark the center of the spoke on the rough side.
Find the middle of the handle and mark.
Lay out the base: Lay out the 7 - 27" spokes horizontally in front of you with the markedside up, line up the center marks. Next weave the handle across the center marks vertically, starting over then under at the center. Weaving on one side of the handle, weave in a 1/4" filler next to the handle going under then over across the spokes, line up the center marks. Next weave in a 25" spoke next to the filler starting over, then under. Our next fillers are all woven in pairs, weave in the 2-1/4" fillers acting as one weave under then over. Across the base lining up the centers. Then weave in a spoke, the a filler pair, spoke, fillers, spoke, fillers, etc. until you have 5 spokes woven in ending with a spoke. Repeat the same pattern on the other side of the handle. True the base to measure about 9-3/8" X about 12" (a filled base) Tuck the fillers to form chicken feet, bending the 1/4" fillers over the spoke to the inside of the basket and under the second spoke the spoke (refer to picture) each spoke will have 2 fillers forming a V the last spoke will only have one filler. Do this all the way around the basket.
